Maywood Comprehensive Plan
The Village of Maywood benefits from a distinct downtown, proximity to Chicago’s central business district, regional transit and highway connections, and the nearby Des Plaines River corridor and Loyola University Medical Center. These assets, along with traditional neighborhoods and attractive housing, are the foundation for the long-term growth of the community.
Houseal Lavigne Associates assisted the Village of Maywood with the creation of an updated Comprehensive Plan that focuses on several key actions. First, the Plan provides a framework for commercial development by identifying 24 key redevelopment sites along the community’s primary corridors. Secondly, it includes strategies to strengthen neighborhoods with a variety of housing options that could attract young professionals working in Chicago and at the nearby medical center. Finally, it recommends several transportation improvements that would capitalize on regional assets, including I-290, commuter rails service, and the 61-mile Illinois Prairie Path. The implementation chapter includes actions for making the Plan a reality, including an economic development strategy and inventory of specific regulatory amendments to be undertaken by the Village and its partners.
